Minimal Usernames: How to Find a Short Handle in 2026
Short handles are rare and valuable. Here's how to find a clean, minimal username that's still available.
By IG Username Generator Team ·
Three- and four-letter handles are mostly gone, but short, minimal usernames are still out there if you know where to look.
Strategies that work
- Drop vowels:
jade→jde,studio→stdio - Use initials:
m.lee,ml.co - Add a single character:
imaya,mayax,_maya - Use a short suffix:
maya.io,maya.co
Keep it pronounceable
A short handle is only valuable if people can say it. mly is short, but maya.co is easier to share.
Watch out for confusion
Avoid letter-number swaps that look alike (l/1, o/0). Minimal handles leave no room for ambiguity.
